Wakiso, Uganda | The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala, on Wednesday began the valuation of 17 properties recovered from corrupt public officials, marking a significant step in the government’s efforts to reclaim stolen public funds.

Justice Naluzze conducted a site visit to one of the properties located in Kitende, Wakiso District, along Entebbe Road. The property, formerly owned by a Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) staff member, was surrendered to the state after investigations revealed asset underdeclaration of UGX 1.6 billion.

The property comprises ten apartments on Busiro Block 383, Plot 9726, currently generating a monthly rental income of UGX 7 million, which is deposited into the IG Asset Recovery Account at the Bank of Uganda.

Speaking during the visit, Justice Naluzze commended IGG investigators for their diligence and assured the public that the institution would continue tracing and recovering illicitly acquired properties.

“The fight against corruption is not lost,” she said, emphasizing the importance of the asset tracing and financial profiling strategy.

According to IGG, of the 17 properties, five are developed and currently generating rental income, while the remaining 12 are undeveloped. Management of the properties has been entrusted to Knight Frank Uganda on behalf of the IGG.

The recovered assets are part of the IGG’s ongoing efforts to identify, seize, and dispose of illicitly acquired properties, either through court orders, voluntary forfeiture in lieu of prosecution, or as a result of investigations.

Over recent years, IGG has successfully recovered multiple properties in the form of land and buildings, demonstrating the institution’s capacity to investigate high-profile corruption cases and reinforce public confidence in the anti-corruption drive.
