KAMULI, UGANDA: Kamuli District has rolled out a series of multi-billion shillings development projects aimed at improving infrastructure, education, and livelihoods, with leaders warning contractors against shoddy work and delays.

The projects were officially launched by Resident District Commissioner Rose Birungi, marking a major push in the district’s development agenda.

The initiatives include the construction of Kagumba Sub-county Headquarters valued at Shs150 million, a three-classroom block at Edhirumamwino Primary School, pledged by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and the upgrade of the Balawoli–Kyamatende landing site road.

District officials say the projects are expected to create jobs, improve service delivery, and enhance access to education and economic opportunities.

Kamuli Chief Administrative Officer Lawrence Male called for strict supervision to ensure quality output. “We need to ensure these projects are implemented to standard. Close monitoring will be critical to avoid substandard work,” Male said.

The LCV Chairperson-elect, Mr Kalori Dhizaala, echoed the warning, urging contractors to deliver value. “Let there be no shortcuts. We want quality work that will genuinely benefit our people,” he said.

RDC Birungi emphasized the use of local labour to boost household incomes and strengthen the district economy. “We want contractors to prioritise local labour. This is an opportunity to empower our communities economically,” she said.

She also called for community ownership of the projects to ensure sustainability and long-term impact.

Officials further stressed transparency and accountability in project implementation, noting that strong oversight mechanisms will be enforced.

Local residents have welcomed the projects, expressing optimism about improved living conditions and expanded opportunities. “These projects will change our lives. We are hopeful they will bring better services and jobs,” one resident said.

Authorities say the projects are expected to be completed within the next year, urging communities to actively participate and safeguard them.
