Katwe Police Arrest Suspect in Car Number Plate Theft Crackdown
Police in Katwe have arrested a suspect in connection with the ongoing crackdown on the theft of vehicle number plates within Kampala Metropolitan areas.
The suspect has been identified as Saul Katushabe, a 26-year-old resident of Lweza in Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso District. He is believed to have been operating in several areas, including Lweza, Najjanankumbi, Zana, Katale, and Nfufu.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson SP Rachael Kawala, the arrest followed a tip-off from vigilant members of the public.
“On Saturday, 28th March, 2026, Police received information about a suspected car vandal trespassing in residential areas of Najjanankumbi. He was reportedly seen peeping into people’s gates, which raised suspicion among nearby private security guards who alerted the authorities,” SP Kawala said.
Police officers responded swiftly and apprehended the suspect.
Upon arrest, Katushabe led officers to the recovery of eight stolen number plates.
Preliminary investigations indicate that he is a habitual offender who has been targeting multiple locations across the metropolitan area.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying operations against vehicle-related crimes and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
