Buyende School Closed After Teacher Defiling P4 Pupil

Buyende district education authorities led by Ruth Tibiri, the Inspector of Schools in Buyende on Monday 30th March 2026 ordered the closure of Talent Infant Day and Boarding, Nursery and Primary school over allegations of sexual abuse of pupils in the school.

Tibiri who spoke to this publication and confirmed the closure of the school also said that the school didn’t have the standard, required facilities to run a boarding section.

This after reports that a teacher identified as Joshua Mugabi, 30 was alleged to be having carnal knowledge with pupils in the school.

Hell broke loose when one of the victims, a p4 pupil narrated the ordeal to her mother identified as Fauzia Namwebya that the suspect was luring them into sexual acts every night.

Namwebya in turn rushed to Buyende police station and filed a defilement case.

According to police records, the matter was officially registered under SD/12/22/03/2026, prompting immediate action from authorities.

Busoga North Regional Police spokesperson, Samson Lubega confirmed that the suspect was under custody at Buyende police station.

Education authorities say measures are being taken to ensure affected learners are protected as police continue with its investigations.

However, the closure left parents and pupils distressed, with community members calling for swift investigations and accountability.

Defilement in Uganda is a capital offense and if found guilty one can be sentenced to life imprisonment or death.
