Harare, Zimbabwe: Uganda’s U-17 women’s national team, the Teen Cranes, took a major step towards the next round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers with a commanding 2-0 away victory over Zimbabwe in the first leg on Sunday.
Uganda dominated proceedings at Ngoni Stadium in Harare, controlling possession and dictating the tempo from the opening minutes.
The breakthrough came in the first half when Immaculate Acen used her pace to beat the Zimbabwean defence before calmly finishing to give the Teen Cranes the lead.
Moments later, Lydia Namaseruka doubled Uganda’s advantage with a composed strike, putting the visitors firmly in control before halftime.
Zimbabwe attempted to mount a response, but Uganda’s defence held strong, with goalkeeper Mayimuna Namuwaya making crucial interventions to keep a clean sheet.
In the second half, the Teen Cranes showed maturity and discipline, managing the game effectively while limiting Zimbabwe to few clear chances.
The final whistle confirmed a 2-0 victory for Uganda, handing them a significant advantage ahead of the return leg.
