Katikkiro Mayiga Tasks Buganda Representatives to Promote Unity in Ankole–Kigezi

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has called upon newly sworn-in Buganda Kingdom representatives in the Ankole–Kigezi region to actively promote unity, cultural identity, and effective communication among the Kabaka’s subjects.

The remarks were made during the official swearing-in ceremony of county (Essaza), sub-county (Ggombolola), and parish (Miruka) chiefs appointed to serve Buganda Kingdom communities living in Ankole and Kigezi.

Katikkiro Mayiga urged the leaders to ensure that all subjects of the Kabaka in their respective areas are kept informed about developments from the Kingdom headquarters and to work closely with fellow leaders in implementing Kingdom programs.

“Ensure that our people remain informed, united, and deeply rooted in their cultural heritage, regardless of where they live,” he said.

Katikkiro Mayiga further stressed the need for Baganda living outside Buganda to remain connected to their cultural roots, noting that distance should not lead to the loss of heritage and identity.

The Buganda Kingdom Minister for Local Government, Kabaka’s Tours and Diaspora Affairs, Joseph Kawuki, in his message to the newly appointed officials, tasked them with identifying and reaching out to all Kabaka’s subjects within their jurisdictions.

He encouraged them to actively involve communities in Kingdom initiatives, including mobilization drives, development programs, and other strategic activities.

Also speaking at the event, Businessman Hajj Hassan Mutaasa Kafeero commended Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II for his continued commitment to all his people, including those living outside Buganda. He noted that the establishment of leadership structures in regions like Ankole and Kigezi reflects the Kabaka’s dedication to inclusivity and unity.

Mutaasa Kafeero reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Kingdom programs and ensuring that Baganda in the diaspora remain aware of and connected to their origins.

John Kalibbala was also sworn in as Deputy to Mutaasa Kafeero, alongside chiefs from seven sub-counties in the Ankole–Kigezi region and several parish-level leaders.
