Police in the Greater Bushenyi Region have launched investigations into the suspected murder of a 57-year-old businessman, Asiimwe Abias, in Ishaka Division, Bushenyi District.
According to police, Asiimwe, a resident of Kashenyi Ward, was last seen on April 18, 2026, at Kashenyi Trading Centre. He reportedly left for a nearby lodge but never returned home, raising concern among his relatives.
His family reported the matter to Kashenyi Police Station the following day, prompting a joint search operation involving police and local residents.
During the search, authorities discovered a burnt and dismembered body believed to be that of Asiimwe within the lodge premises. The remains were found in a section reportedly rented by the prime suspect.
Police have since arrested seven suspects, including the main suspect, to assist with ongoing investigations.
“The scene of crime was examined and relevant exhibits were recovered,” said SP Apollo Tayebwa, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer for Greater Bushenyi.
The body was taken to Kitagata Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.
Police have condemned the incident and assured the public that all those responsible will be brought to justice.
“We extend our sincere condolences to the bereaved family and pray for the deceased’s soul to rest in peace,” Tayebwa added.
