Police in Greater Bushenyi are investigating a gruesome suspected murder in which a prominent businessman was found burnt and dismembered at a lodge in Ishaka Division, Bushenyi District.

The deceased has been identified as Abias Asiimwe, 57, a businessman and resident of Kashenyi Ward.

According to a police statement issued by the Greater Bushenyi Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Tayebwa Apollo, Asiimwe was last seen on April 18, 2026, at Kashenyi Trading Centre before reportedly heading to a nearby lodge. He never returned home, raising concern among family members.

His relatives reported the disappearance to police at Kashenyi the following day, prompting an immediate response. A joint search operation involving police and local residents led to a shocking discovery.

Authorities recovered a burnt and dismembered body believed to be that of Asiimwe from the lodge premises.

Police have since arrested seven suspects, including a prime suspect, to assist with ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing.

“The scene of crime was thoroughly examined and relevant exhibits were recovered to aid investigations,” SP Tayebwa said in the statement.

The body was conveyed to Kitagata Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.

Police have strongly condemned the act, describing it as heinous, and assured the public that all those responsible will be brought to justice.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the bereaved family and pray for the deceased’s soul to rest in eternal peace,” the statement added.

Investigations into the motive and circumstances of the killing remain ongoing, with police promising to provide updates as more details emerge.
