2 panga-wielding boys arrested in Kawempe division
Police in Kampala Metropolitan Area say they have arrested suspects identified as Serwanja Najjib and Derrick.
The pair were arrested following numerous complaints about panga-wielding thugs terrorizing residents in Kawempe and surrounding areas.
Kawala Rachael, spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan, said an intelligence-led operation was launched on April 21 along Tula Namere Road in Kawempe Division, Wakiso district.
“The operation led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of several crucial exhibits,” she said.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspects were involved in breaking into people’s homes, brutally attacking victims with pangas, and then robbing them of their belongings.
Upon searching their bags, officers recovered pangas, breaking implements, and two suspected stolen phones.
Additionally, Kawala revealed, a motorcycle, UGD 081D, which was being ridden by the suspects at the time of their arrest, was also recovered.
However, by the time of the arrest, the motorcycle’s number plate had been deliberately concealed.
“Our forces are intensifying efforts to apprehend other suspects involved in these violent robberies.
“Investigations are ongoing as the police continue their crackdown on panga-wielding thugs in the region,” she added.
