One Arrested as Police Recover Suspected Stolen Motorcycles, Spare Parts in Katwe Operation

Kampala—Police in Katwe Division have intensified operations targeting suspected stolen motorcycles and spare parts in Wansanso Zone, Kibuye II Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala.

The ongoing operation, which began on 20th April 2026, saw a search conducted on 22nd April starting at 9:00 AM. Police cordoned off and searched eight shops, leading to the recovery of spare parts believed to belong to around 200 motorcycles.

Among the recovered items were 28 Ugandan motorcycle number plates, eight tracking devices, three unidentified number plates, one South Sudan number plate, three Kenyan motorcycle number plates, and three intact motorcycles with vandalized number plates.

Later that evening, further operations resulted in the arrest of several suspects. Kavuma Faisal was apprehended at Shell Kibuye, where a search of his shop led to the recovery of a brand-new motorcycle without a number plate and several spare parts. Sonko Alex, a resident of Kinawa in Nateete, was also arrested after being found with a suspected stolen red Bajaj Boxer, registration number UFC 830R. A third suspect, Matovu Mike, was later arrested in Ndeeba in connection with the operation.

Investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to recover more stolen motorcycles and apprehend additional suspects. Police reaffirm their commitment to combating motorcycle theft and dismantling criminal networks involved in the illegal spare parts trade.
