Senior One student at Nganwa High School has died after falling into a water well on the school premises, authorities said.
The deceased, identified as Dyan Ampurire, reportedly fell into the well on Thursday evening while fetching water for personal use, according to preliminary reports.
In a statement released on Friday, the school administration expressed grief over the incident, describing it as a tragic loss at the start of the student’s secondary education.
“Despite the school’s immediate response to rush him for medical attention and the best efforts of the medical team at Kabwohe Health Centre IV, he was pronounced dead on arrival,” the statement read in part.
The administration extended condolences to the family, classmates and friends, and appealed for privacy as they mourn.
The District Police Commander for Sheema, Consolanta Kasule, confirmed the incident but said details would remain limited as investigations continue.
By press time, burial arrangements were being coordinated between the school and the bereaved family.
