Parliament passes UGX 84.3 trillion budget for next financial year
Parliament today approved and passed the 84.3 trillion shilling budget for the 2026/27 financial year, aimed at consolidating the NRM government’s achievements and promoting innovation. This comes at a time when national debt has risen, though it remains sustainable. However, the minority report presented by Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda warned that Uganda’s debt situation is concerning, noting that most government borrowing now comes from domestic sources. This, the report argued, places pressure on businesses and other borrowers. The budget will be supported by revenue collection projected at 44 trillion shillings.
