Police in Rubanda District have arrested Six Suspects in an intelligence-led disruptive operation targeting suspected criminal gangs operating within Rubanda Town Council.

The operation, conducted in the early hours of Sunday, 03/05/2026 between midnight and 05:00am, was led by the District Police Commander, SP JB Tumwebaze, together with officers from Rubanda Central Police Station (CPS). It focused on identified crime black spots and individuals believed to have been under security watch lists, including some known ex-convicts.

Those arrested include Namanya Joel, Mucunguzi Anobed, Ahimbisibwe Bruno, Agaba William, Mugisha Erias, and Akankwasa Brian.

According to police, the operation was prompted by emerging reports of aggravated robberies in which suspects allegedly armed with machetes, knives, and stones have been targeting night travellers and robbing them of their valuables.

The suspects are currently detained at CPS Rubanda pending further investigations and possible identification by victims. Among those expected to assist in the process is Eng. Denis Twesigomwe of Rubanda District Local Government, who reportedly lost a bag containing a laptop and Shs 4.9 million during a robbery incident on 02/02/2026 at around 3:00am upon returning from Kampala.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi region Police Spokesperson urged the public to cooperate with ongoing investigations and share information that could help dismantle criminal networks in the area.
