Tragedy in Kabale: Hotel Guest Found Dead Hours after Check-in

Police in Kabale District have registered a sudden death after a man was found lifeless in a hotel room in Kabale Municipality.

The deceased has been identified as Zibahurire Peter, also known as Kamugisha, a resident of Murandamo “A” Cell, Rubumba Parish, Kahungye Sub-county.

According to the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, the body was discovered on May 4, 2026, at around 3:00 PM in a room he had rented at Manhattan Hotel.

It is reported that the deceased had checked into the hotel intending to spend a night after failing to obtain medication from Kabale Regional Referral Hospital. He had reportedly planned to return the following day to get the medicine, prompting him to stay in town.

The incident came to light when a hotel receptionist conducted a routine morning check and noticed that the room door was not locked. Upon entering, she found the man unresponsive on the bed and immediately alerted the hotel management, who then reported the matter to CPS Kabale.

Police, together with a police surgeon, visited and documented the scene. A postmortem examination was conducted to establish the exact cause of death.

The body has since been handed over to the relatives for burial.
