NIRA Shifts Operations from Kololo to Kitante School Temporarily Ahead of Museveni Swearing-in Ceremony
The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has announced the temporary relocation of its service operations from Kololo Ceremonial Grounds to Kitante Primary School, effective from Wednesday, May 6 to Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
The relocation is intended to ensure the smooth continuity of services during a period of national preparations.
The move comes as Uganda prepares for May 12, which has officially been declared a public holiday to mark the swearing-in of President-elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni following his victory in the January 15 presidential elections.
In its statement issued on Tuesday, NIRA management confirmed that all services previously offered at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds will now be conducted at Kitante Primary School, near the Uganda Museum, for the duration of the transition period.
The Authority further noted that clients will continue to access several services online through its official websites, www.nira.go.ug and www.marriages.nira.go.ug, including tracking the status of National IDs, confirmation of information letters, confirmation of National Identification Numbers (NIN), verification of birth and death certificates, filing marriage returns, applying for civil marriages, and accessing requirements related to civil marriages, places of worship for marriage ceremonies, special license venues, and marital status letters.
Normal service at the NIRA Head Office is expected to resume on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, while all other NIRA offices across the country, including Roadshow Mobile Card Issuance units, will continue to operate as usual.
“We regret any inconveniences caused to our clients and appreciate their understanding as we support preparations for this important national occasion,” the statement concluded.
