Butaleja S.3 Student Commits Suicide, Leaves Behind Suicide Note

A 21-year-old student at Alliance High School Busolwe was found dead on Friday morning in an apparent suicide, police in Bukedi South have confirmed.

The deceased has been identified as Opendi Donato, alias Junior, an S.3 student and resident of Nagondo B Village, Mulagi Parish, Busaba Sub-County, Butaleja District.

Bukedi South Regional Police Spokesperson, Moses Johnson Mugwe said the incident occurred on May 8, 2026.

“It is alleged that at around 6am, one Moso who was going to the garden found the body of Opendi hanging on a tree within the same village,” Mugwe said. “He notified the relatives and the LC1 chairperson who then reported the matter to police.”

A case of suicide by hanging was registered at Busaba Police Station.

Mugwe said officers recovered three exhibits from the scene including a suicide note, the deceased’s PLE results slip, and the rope.

Statements we’re recorded from relevant witnesses, and the body was conveyed to Mbale City Mortuary for postmortem.

While police have not released the contents of the note, Mugwe urged the public to seek help when facing distress.

“We appeal to people not to give up whenever they meet challenges in life. Always share with responsible persons or authorities so that they are helped instead of taking their lives,” Mugwe said. “In life there is no doubling.”
