Anita Among’s Accounts Reportedly Facing Freeze Amid Expanding Corruption Investigations

KAMPALA, Uganda — Former Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among is reportedly facing fresh pressure as government investigators intensify inquiries into alleged illicit enrichment and abuse of public resources.

According to information reaching this publication, authorities are considering moves to freeze Among’s bank accounts and confiscate some of the properties allegedly linked to the ongoing investigations. Sources claim the measures are part of a wider crackdown targeting individuals believed to have benefited from questionable financial dealings connected to Parliament.

Highly placed sources further allege that former parliamentary commissioners could also face asset confiscation and account freezes as investigations widen.

Several Members of Parliament and business associates linked to the former Speaker are reportedly expected to be questioned by investigators.

The names being mentioned include Dicksons Kateshumbwa, Amos Kankunda, Herbert Ariko, Dan Kimosho, Patrick Opolot Isiagi, Asuman Basalirwa, Abdu Katuntu, former parliamentary commissioner Solomon Silwany, and businessman Ariong, the proprietor of Wash and Wills.

Others reportedly appearing on the list include Minister Peter Ogwang, Esther Anyakun, Lamwo Woman MP Nancy Acora, and former Zombo Woman MP Esther Afoyochan.

Sources familiar with the investigations say the current probe is being handled differently from previous corruption-related investigations, where files allegedly disappeared or cases reportedly stalled due to compromise within the system.

The publication has further learnt that the investigations are being closely monitored by Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is said to be keen on ensuring that “no stone is left unturned.”

However, by press time, neither Anita Among nor the mentioned individuals had officially commented on the allegations and reported investigations.
