Another person shot in Gulu
Unknown gunmen have shot dead Wilfred Ojok, 24, a shop attendant in Paromo Village, Paduny parish, Awach Town Council, Gulu District.
The armed men stormed the shop at around 9 pm on Friday. One of them placed people playing cards on the verandah at gunpoint, while his accomplice entered the shop disguised as a buyer.
Police say the armed man charged towards the counter and grabbed the money, but the deceased resisted by fighting back, prompting his colleague to shoot at him during the altercation, and fled the scene.
Aswa West Police Spokesperson, Mr David Ongom Mudong, said on Saturday morning that Ojok was rushed to Awach HC IV but passed on shortly.
‘’The body was taken to Gulu regional referral Hospital mortuary pending postmortem as inquiries intensify.’’ Mr Mudong said, adding that a case of murder by shooting and aggravated robbery is being investigated.
Adding that: ‘’The joint security and our intelligence components are patching up relevant clues, and we urge the members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with us by giving any relevant information linking the culprits to the above heinous act.
The incident is coming barely two weeks after unknown armed men on a motorcycle stormed the LT Energy Petrol Station at Laliya Trading Centre in Keyi B Cell, Kasubi Ward in Gulu City, disguising to be customers before shooting Ronald Obedi, a security guard attached to Samurai Security Organisation and robbing the security personnel on duty of his gun.
An unidentified person was also injured by stray bullets as the gunmen rained bullets in the air.
‘’One of them sneaked behind the petrol station where he pulled a gun/rifle from his jacket and shot instantly at the security guard, shooting him on the head, robbed his gun, which he gave to a colleague, and all started shooting randomly where a stray bullet got an unidentified person.’’ Mr Mudong said on May 6th.
A case file of aggravated robbery and attempted murder has been opened, 14 cartridges were recovered at the scene, as well as blood samples picked.’’ Mr Mudong added in a statement.
