Prosecutors Country wide to meet next week as DPP Caution them Against indiscipline

On addressing journalists at ODPP headquarters on Friday, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mr. Lino Anguzu revealed that the annual Symposium brings together prosecutors under his office, licensed prosecutors and key stakeholders in the justice system.

“The objectives of the symposium is to equip Prosecutors with the requisite knowledge and skills for the effective execution of Prosecution function, facilitate the sharing of experience, innovation approaches and best approach in managing prosecuting crime.”

Other objectives include enhancing team work, collaboration and communication across the Justice system.

“We have requested the Judiciary to adjourn the criminal cases scheduled for next week to be adjourned so that prosecutors can get time to travel and attend to their symposium. New dates will be communicated,we apologize for any inconvenience that it may cause to the public.”

Discipline

Anguzu clarified that the Office of the Public Prosecutions has zero tolerance to corruption and integrity is key throughout all their operations.

He pointed out that his office has registered some cases of corruption among the staff and in these cases serious investigations are ongoing, many of the culprits are being prosecuted in courts of law. Those who will be found guilty will be retired from service and others will be demoted.

“I appeal you the members of the public to support us in fighting corruption because as the top administration we can’t do it alone.”

Kagezi Lecture

On 29th May 2026, the ODPP will hold the 8th Joan Kagezi memorial lecture under a theme: “Prosecution as a catalyst for economic Transformation, Safety and Public Trust.”

According to Mr. Lino Anguzu, revealed that this event which is going to be held at Speke Resort Munyonyo, will attract over 500 participants including prosecutors, investigators, Judicial officers, legal Practitioners and representatives from key Government institutions.

This Lecture has been organized in remembrance of Joan Namazzi Kagezi, the Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions who was murdered in 2015 in line of duty.
