Embattled former Speaker of parliament Annette Anita Among who has been out of the public domain ever since she was sworn in at parliament on 13th this Month has congratulated both Oboth Oboth and Thomas Tayebwa upon their election as Speaker and Deputy speaker of the 12th parliament as she continues to face challenges which led to her downfall two weeks ago.

The troubled Bukedea District Member of Parliament was forced to painfully withdraw out of the Speakership race sighting peace, harmony and unity with her party NRM and she promised to support a candidate whom the president and the party will present to lead parliament moving forward.

Anita Among was no show on Friday in the Central Executive Committee which retracted her endorsement for re-election as Speaker following her withdrawal. She was also absent on Sunday as CEC and the NRM parliamentary caucus formally endorsed both Oboth Oboth and Thomas Tayebwa for election as Speaker and Deputy speaker. Reports suggest she sent her apologies through the Secretary General Richard Todwong and the party’s Electoral Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi sighting threats to her life.

The former very powerful number three was also absent at Kololo as legislators voted for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of of the 12th parliament. She was no-show and never voted for the two but has taken to her social media pages and indicated that she has no doubt that the leadership of Oboth Oboth and Tayebwa will bolster the legislative agenda and promote outcomes that serve Uganda’s best interests.

Jacob Oboth Oboth in his maiden speech promised a corrupt free parliament, a people centred parliament which will always put the interests of Uganda first, an open parliament which will not lock media out, a house which will always hold the executive accountable and a parliament which will hold research- based debates. He said Speaker’s chair is not a throne and promised to remain the same calm Oboth Oboth who will not be taken by the power the position comes with.
