KAMPALA — As the government intensifies efforts to combat corruption and illicit enrichment in public office, reports have emerged that several Ugandan politicians have acquired residential properties in neighboring Kenya.

According to information obtained by The Ankole Times, eight senior political figures “including five Members of Parliament and three ministers” have allegedly purchased homes in Kenya in what sources describe as preparations to relocate their families.

The leaders are reportedly among those perceived to have been close associates of former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, who remains at the center of ongoing investigations into alleged illicit enrichment and misuse of public resources.

Sources claim that some of the properties were purchased in Karen, an upscale suburb of Nairobi, while two of the MPs are said to have acquired homes in Eldoret.

Information available to this publication indicates that the five MPs allegedly spent approximately KSh10 million each (about UGX270 million) on their properties, while the three ministers reportedly spent around KSh20 million each (about UGX540 million).

A highly placed source said to be close to one of the ministers told this publication that some government officials are increasingly concerned as investigations continue to widen.

“The ministers are uncertain about what may happen as the investigations expand,” the source claimed.

The source further alleged that the properties were acquired through a Kenyan real estate firm identified as Relant Property Estate.

The identities of the MPs and ministers linked to the alleged purchases have not yet been independently verified. This publication is continuing its investigations and will provide additional information as more details become available.

Since the launch of investigations into the alleged illicit enrichment of former Speaker Anita Annet Among, reports suggest that several MPs and ministers have become increasingly anxious amid fears that further arrests or prosecutions could follow.

Authorities have not publicly linked any of the alleged property purchases in Kenya to ongoing investigations, and no official statements have been issued regarding the claims.
