Ntungamo Allocates Shs100 Million for Bwongyera HCIII Renovation as Residents Call for More Staff

Bwongyera Health Centre III is set for a major facelift in the 2026/27 financial year, but residents say improved infrastructure must be matched with increased staffing and better road access to address growing healthcare demands.

Bwongyera Health Centre III in Ntungamo District is set to benefit from a Shs100 million renovation and facelift in the 2026/27 financial year, a move aimed at improving healthcare service delivery and expanding infrastructure at the facility.

Ntungamo District Deputy LC5 Chairperson Asuman Kigongo said the district plans to renovate the maternity ward and construct a new outpatient department (OPD) to better serve the growing population.In the next financial year, we are going to plan and see how we can renovate the maternity ward and also put up a new OPD. We are going to work with stakeholders to give this facility a facelift,” Kigongo said.

The planned investment is expected to improve healthcare services at the facility and enhance access to maternal and outpatient care for residents in the surrounding communities.

Despite welcoming the development, residents say several challenges continue to affect access to quality healthcare. They cited the poor condition of the road linking Nyamunuka Town to the health centre, which becomes difficult to use, particularly during the rainy season.

Community members are also calling for the upgrade of Bwongyera Health Centre III to Health Centre IV status and the deployment of additional health workers to address staffing shortages they say are affecting service delivery.

“We request the government to add more nurses to the hospital because in Nyamunuka, we are very many people,” said resident Shahidu Kabanza.

Residents expressed hope that the planned renovation will be accompanied by increased staffing levels, improved medical services and better transport infrastructure to meet the area's growing healthcare needs.

The proposed upgrade comes as local leaders seek to strengthen health service delivery across Ntungamo District by improving infrastructure and expanding access to essential healthcare services.
