Fort-portal city suspend weekly markets over Ebola

Authorities in Fort Portal City have suspended the operation of weekly markets until further notice as part of measures to prevent the spread of Ebola Virus Disease.

The suspension which takes immediate effect was announced following a meeting of the city Ebola task force yesterday.

While speaking to Kasese Guide Radio last evening, Mr. Emmanuel Businge, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner for Fort Portal City said the weekly markets had been closed because they attract large, uncontrolled crowds from within the city and neighboring districts, making it difficult to screen and monitor all people who come to these markets. However, Businge clarified that daily markets will continue operating under strict adherence to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by health authorities. END
