Gov’t To Cut Wastage Of Taxpayers’ Money By Introducing Collaborative Procurement

Government is set to introduce a major reform in public procurement that will see use of collaborative procurement for common user items in all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as Local Governments.

According to the PSST Dr. Ramathan Ggoobi, “all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as Local Governments (LGs) will implement the use of collaborative procurement for common user items such as stationery, computers, cars etc effective 1st July 2026.”

“This is part of the measures to cut wastage, guard against over pricing of goods and services in Government, standardise prices, achieve quality standards, value for money and maximize economies of scale,” Ggoobi says, adding that this reform is also aimed at making public procurement efficient, transparent and corruption free.

He says this reform will remove middlemen of procurement and also cut down on the lead time.

“If Government is buying similar things like cars and computers, there is no need for each entity to look for bidders,” he said, adding that common user items will be purchased in bulk on behalf of all requesting MDAs & LGs.
