I Have Beaten the Head of the Snake’ – Mao Declares Victory After Kampala Engagement
AMURU District – Norbert Mao has declared to residents of Amuru that he has confronted the root cause of political challenges in the region, describing his recent actions in Kampala as a decisive blow to the source of their struggles.
“I told you earlier that I don’t fight the shadow of the snake. I know where the big snake was. I went to Kampala and I hope you’ve seen what I have done. I have beaten the head of the snake,” Mao said.
The statement, made during a public address in Amuru District, was met with mixed reactions. Supporters interpreted it as a signthat Mao’s political engagement in the capital has yielded tangible results, reinforcing his long-held belief in solving problems at their origin rather than addressing surface-level symptoms.
While Mao did not provide specific details about the actions taken in Kampala, political analysts suggest the remarks may be linked to his recent negotiations or coalition efforts at the national level. As the leader of the Democratic Party (DP) and current Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Mao has increasingly positioned himself as a pragmatic figure focused on institutional change.
Residents of Amuru, a district that has faced historical land disputes and political marginalization, appeared divided in their response. Some welcomed Mao’s confidence, while others called for concrete evidence of change beyond symbolic declarations.
“We respect Mao, but we need to see the snake dead, not just beaten,” said one elder who declined to be named.
Mao’s approach “prioritizing engagement over confrontation” has drawn both praise and criticism from different quarters. However, his latest remarks suggest he believes the strategy is already paying off.
Observers note that whether the “head of the snake” refers to a specific individual, policy bottleneck, or systemic issue remains unclear. For now, Mao has urged the people of Amuru to remain patient and watchful.
“The symptoms may still linger,” he added. “But the source has been dealt with.”
