Man Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Wife to Death in Kabale

Police in Kabale District are holding a man accused of assaulting his wife to death following a domestic dispute in Kamuganguzi Sub-county.

The suspect has been identified as Babikyingira Godfrey, also known as God, while the deceased is Niwamanya Gorrette, alias Koreti, a 35-year-old housewife and resident of Nyakarindi Village, Kasheregyenyi Parish, Kamuganguzi Sub-county, Kabale District.

According to police, the incident occurred on June 7, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m. in Nyakarindi Village. Preliminary investigations indicate that Niwamanya had been drinking waragi at a local bar in Kasheregyenyi before the incident.

It is alleged that Babikyingira accused his wife of stealing his money. Following the accusation, he reportedly picked a fencing plant locally known as oruyenge and used it to assault her.

The assault is said to have caused fatal injuries that resulted in Niwamanya’s death.

Police officers from Kamuganguzi Police Station responded swiftly to the scene and arrested Babikyingira to assist with investigations.

The Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, confirmed the incident and said inquiries into the matter are ongoing.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
