Shock and grief have gripped Wakiso after court remanded two suspects linked to the brutal killing of Lydia Babirye, the daughter of former Katikkiro JB Walusimbi, in a case that has stunned the nation.

Wakiso Chief Magistrate Naume Sikhoya sent Abubakar Ntenge and Shafic Kagga on remand after they were charged with kidnap, aggravated robbery, and murder in connection with the grisly crime.

The court heard that Babirye, a 52-year-old resident of Kigowa, Ntinda, was abducted in early June before her life took a tragic turn.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the matter was first reported on June 4, 2026, at Old Kampala Police Station after the victim went missing under mysterious circumstances.

Shortly after the disappearance, the suspects allegedly used her own phone to contact her relatives, demanding money in exchange for her release—sparking a desperate search operation.

A joint security team swung into action, arresting several suspects including Ssemugenyi Vincent, Nakiryowa Olivia, Kagga Shafiq, and Ntege Abubakar.

However, sustained investigations later pinned Kagga Shafiq and Ntege Abubakar as the main suspects in the kidnapping and murder plot.

Ntege was arrested in Nateete, and what followed shocked detectives.

During interrogation, he reportedly led investigators to his home in Kiteredde Village, Kakiri Town Council, Wakiso District, where Babirye’s body was recovered.

Police say the body was found in a decomposing state, wrapped in a mattress cover and tied with ropes, inside the suspect’s house. Investigators also discovered a freshly dug grave within the compound—raising chilling questions about how the crime was allegedly planned.

Prosecutors led by Peninnah Joy Nakaweesa told court that the offences were committed between June 3 and 4 in Kiteredde Village.

The suspects were produced before Wakiso Chief Magistrate Naume Sikhoya, who remanded them as investigations continue into what has been described as a deeply disturbing case.

The matter has been adjourned to July 8 as police continue to piece together evidence in the capital offence trial.
