The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has launched emergency repair works following a major water supply interruption in Bukedea District after a cement truck reportedly lost control and crashed into a swamp, damaging a key transmission main.

According to a supply interruption update issued by the utility company, the accident occurred on Saturday afternoon, cutting off water supply to several areas, including Bukedea Comprehensive School and neighboring communities. The school is owned by former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among.

NWSC said the damaged transmission pipeline is critical to water distribution in the area, and the impact of the accident was immediately felt by consumers who depend on the network for domestic and institutional water needs.

“Our technical team has already mobilized materials and is on site,” NWSC said in a statement. “Repairs will commence once the truck is removed from the swamp.”

The utility did not indicate how long the restoration process would take but assured customers that every effort was being made to resume normal water supply as quickly as possible.

Residents and institutions affected by the outage have been advised to use the available water sparingly until the damaged infrastructure is repaired and supply is fully restored.

The incident has particularly affected Bukedea Comprehensive School, one of the district’s notable educational institutions, where access to a reliable water supply is essential for students and staff. Neighboring communities have also experienced disruptions, raising concerns about water availability if repairs are delayed.

Road accidents involving heavy trucks have previously caused damage to public infrastructure, highlighting the vulnerability of utility installations located near major transport routes. In this case, the crash not only disrupted transport but also interfered with essential water services.

NWSC statement on social media said they are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating the recovery operation to minimize inconvenience to customers. The corporation thanked affected consumers for their patience and understanding during the emergency response.
