Kampala Metropolitan Police has arrested a 36-year-old man in Kawempe Division for unlawful possession of suspected government stores after an intelligence-led operation.
The suspect, Prosper Turinawe, a driver with a private security company from Kyebando Central, was picked up on June 21 after police received reports that a man was seen with a pistol along Mawanda Road.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said police acted on the information and later recovered 13 rounds of ammunition, about 40 spent cartridges, black military-style boots and uniforms from a residence linked to the suspect.
“The suspect is in police custody and has been charged with possession of governmentstores,” Owoyesigyire said, adding that investigations are ongoing to establish the source of the exhibits and trace the missing firearm.
