Four Arrested Over Aggravated Robbery and Attempted Murder in Kanungu
Police in the Kigezi Region have arrested four suspects in connection with an alleged case of aggravated robbery and attempted murder that occurred in Kanungu District.
The suspects have been identified as Richard Kiseka (40), Kakule Sibandera (23), Mukonyezi Ian (17), and Ashanjaho Frank (18). They are currently being held at Kanungu Police Station as investigations continue.
According to Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime, the suspects allegedly, while armed with an AK-47 rifle and machetes, attacked a home at Rugarambiro Cell in Eastern Ward, Nyakabingo Town Council, Kanungu District, on Monday, 7 July 2026.
Police say the assailants allegedly stole two motor vehicles, an unspecified amount of money, laptops, and two mobile phones during the incident. They are also accused of attempting to kill the occupants of the home.
Following the reported robbery, police mounted a swift response and intercepted the suspects, recovering the two stolen vehicles: a Toyota Fielder, registration number UBM 425G, and a Hilux Double Cabin pickup, registration number UA 789EM.
SP Nelson Tumushime has urged residents of Kanungu District to remain calm, assuring them that security agencies are actively investigating the case and remain committed to protecting lives and property.
Police investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to face charges of aggravated robbery and attempted murder upon completion of the inquiries.
