Stop political bickering and prioritize prosperity - Minister Gume

The State Minister for Trade, Industry, and Cooperation, Hon Gume Fredrick Ngobi, has cautioned Ugandans against indulging in political bickering and instead encouraged them to embrace government development programs for collective prosperity.

Speaking at the 43rd Tarehe Sita Defence Forces Week in Kaliro District, Hon Ngobi emphasized the need for everyone to capitalize on the abundant peace prevailing in the country to enhance their quality of life.

He urged citizens to reflect on the dark days of Uganda when it faced human rights abuses, looting, and mass murders, thanking President Yoweri K Museveni for spearheading a revolution that brought about much-needed peace.

"Let us remember the past dark days of the country when there seemed to be no hope. Uganda became a failed state characterized by unspeakable human rights abuses, raping, looting, and mass murders," said Hon Ngobi.

Maj Gen Moses Rwakitarate, representing the Chief of Defence Forces Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, underscored the significance of Tarehe Sita as an annual event commemorating the founding of NRA/UPDF as a People's Force.

He highlighted the unique approach of taking the celebrations to different regions, emphasizing the connection with the population.

"The celebrations in Busoga Sub Region aim at connecting with the population. Subsequently, from the 24th anniversary, we realized the need to take the barracks to the people as well," Maj Gen Moses explained.

In recent years, Tarehe Sita commemorations have expanded beyond barracks, covering various regions of Uganda.

Maj Gen Moses mentioned the last three regions covered by the Army, emphasizing the importance of bringing the military closer to the people.
