IGG Kamya Hails Pope Francis’ Humility and Integrity at Lubaga Memorial

The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Beti Kamya, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Pope Francis, describing him as a global symbol of humility, integrity, and a tireless advocate against corruption.

Kamya made the remarks during a memorial held at Lubaga Cathedral, which drew hundreds of mourners, including political dignitaries, religious leaders, and members of the public.

The ceremony reflected the immense respect Pope Francis commanded across religious and political divides.

Received by Rev Fr Pius Male Ssentumbwe, chancellor of the Archdiocese of Kampala, Kamya signed the condolence book, expressing her deep sorrow and admiration for the pontiff’s legacy.

“Pope Francis was not just a spiritual leader, but a moral compass for the world. His humility and unwavering stance against corruption should inspire all of us, especially those entrusted with public service,” Kamya said in her address.

She urged Ugandan leaders to emulate the Pope’s values, noting that integrity and selflessness are critical to the country’s development.

The State Minister for Kampala, Fred Kyofatogabye Kabuye, also addressed the mourners, describing the Pope’s passing as “a great loss to humanity.”

He emphasized the importance of honoring the Pope’s legacy by fostering unity and peace, especially as the country approaches the next election cycle.

The memorial service was attended by several political figures, including NUP mobilizer Fred Nyanzi, Rubaga North MP Aloysious Mukasa, and Hajj Latiff Ssebagala Sengendo, all of whom praised Pope Francis for his compassion, humility, and service to humanity.

Religious leaders from multiple faiths also paid tribute. Orthodox Archbishop Jeronymous Muzeeyi and the Deputy Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Ali Waiswa, highlighted the Pope’s ability to bridge religious divides and promote inclusivity.

A message of condolence from the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council was read, acknowledging the Pope’s profound global impact.

Fr Ssentumbwe announced that a special mass in honour of Pope Francis would be held the following day, calling on the faithful to attend in large numbers.

Pope Francis passed away earlier this month after a lifetime of service marked by compassion, reform, and an unwavering fight against injustice.

His legacy continues to inspire millions around the world.
