KAMPALA – The Ministry of Works and Transport Uganda has called on all motor vehicle owners to urgently verify and update their contact information following delays in processing vehicle registration services.

In a public notice issued on April 10, 2026, the Ministry revealed that a significant number of applications for duplicate number plates and transitions to digital registration plates have stalled due to incorrect or outdated contact details in the motor vehicle register. The errors, particularly in email addresses and telephone numbers, have made it difficult for authorities to reach applicants and schedule plate fittings.

As a result, the Ministry says it has been unable to effectively communicate with affected applicants, leading to prolonged waiting times.

Motorists who have applied for duplicate plates or digital registration plates are now required to take immediate action by verifying their contact details through the Uganda Revenue Authority online tax portal using their Tax Identification Number (TIN).

For those who need to make corrections, the Ministry has advised visiting the nearest URA office with a valid National ID to update their records.

The notice further warns that failure to update this information will result in continued delays in accessing motor vehicle registration services.
